Twinkle Fish

I took some trash out the other night and saw that someone had just now tossed their Christmas tree. Weird enough. But as I got closer I noticed something dangling from it. And not just one ornament had been left:

I'll resist the urge to editorialize (although it's nearly killing me), but since Fridge Soup is an international collective some of you may be interested to know that Christmas in Florida includes all the decorative trappings found everywhere else: images of Santa Claus, snow, angels, reindeer and - did I mention snow? But this being a place of ocean and sunshine other elements are sometimes thrown into the mix.

  1. I'd have to rescue those poor little 'fish out of water', and find then a suitable corner to live somewhere else! :)

  2. Never mind the ornaments, I just love your word "trash". So much more expressive than our "rubbish"!

  3. Before I read your post, I saw the pic and thought it was a plant growing - triffid-like - out of the bin!

  4. Jinksy: They may be made of rubber, but seeing them dangle there is still rather gruesome.

Frances: "Rubbish" is a word you can really dig into, but I have to admit, "trash" sounds more like something to be disposed of.

  6. Rubber or silver, I don't know if I could have left them. I hate the thought of the disposable Christmas ornament - apart from paper or popcorn.

  7. Did you rescue them?
I went for an evening walk the other day past a house that still had a lit Christmas tree in the living room.

  8. Inevitably, I find an overlooked ornament on the tree after it's been plunked into a backyard snowbank. I'm wracking my brain to think of the weirdest thing we've ever hung on a tree but have to admit to being utterly conventional. But you just might have freed me from that.

  9. No, I did not rescue them, but I thought someone would, and in fact someone did.

  10. One mans garbage is another's treasure! Looks to me like the wife really hated these ornaments and somehow "overlooked" them when packing everything away!

  11. I sure hope the fish were saved from the dumpster?
