Sweetpeas

I love sweetpeas and grow two long rows of them, each about 10 ft.  For the first time I tried to get ahead of myself in the autumn and sowed some Sarah Raven seeds given to me by a friend.  All have been polished off by mice with expensive tastes.
Anyone any idea if I can sow some more now or would you wait until it is warmer?

Sorry, not a blog really!

  1. Well, don't you have lucky little well-fed mousies!
The only rule I know about planting peas is that we, here, are supposed to plant them at Easter time. They like chilly starts. No idea how that would translate to North Wales...

  2. A random thought: Whenever I think "Wales," I pronounce it (mentally) Way'-oooz.

  3. St Patrick's Day..never waver from it and you'll be fine.I've grown sweet peas in both hemispheres and followed the rule both places, it still works. My local sweet pea breeder follows this rule too and we've had some beauties.

  4. Elizabeth!! This are my favourite flowers ever. On my 16th birthday my crusty old granddad arrived with a big bouquet of them in his hand and ever since then I've loved them. Hope you manage to keep the next batch safe. And what's this about St. Patrick's Day??? You mean that's when they should be planted? Not in Zone 5 Canada, I shouldn't think....

  5. I don't know what the world's coming to. Even the mice aren't happy with the odd bit of cheese any more.

  6. I don't know what your weather is like but you can always start them indoors and plant out the seedlings.
